Route 1976 is the shortest drive at this test centre, 5.2 miles in about 21 minutes as a single stage. It stays inside Hexham, climbing south of the town and returning. It is also the only one of the eleven routes here that never leaves 20 and 30 mph limits, so there is no national speed limit section at all.

Watch Out For

  • Five sets of traffic lights inside just 5.2 miles.
  • Causey Hill Road and the climb south, narrow with tight bends.
  • Two roundabouts: give way to the right and signal left on exit.
  • Seven left and six right turns in a compact residential network.
