Route 1980 covers 9.2 miles in about 25 minutes as a single stage, crossing to Anick and Dilston before returning through Hexham. Limits run from 20 to 70 mph. Like several routes here it is right turn heavy, with eight rights against four lefts, and at 25 minutes it is one of the quicker drives at this test centre for the distance covered.

Watch Out For

  • Four roundabouts: give way to the right and signal left on exit.
  • Six sets of traffic lights through the town section.
  • Church Row, narrow and close to the market area with pedestrians about.
  • Eight right turns, each one waiting on oncoming traffic.
