Sylvia Park #304 Free
At 17.43 km and 34 minutes, this is the longest and most demanding Sylvia Park route. It covers Mount Wellington Highway, Carbine Road, Great South Road, and the South Eastern Highway at up to 80 km/h, passing through Mt Wellington, Otahuhu, and Penrose. With 21 traffic signals and just 1 roundabout, it is signal-heavy compared to Route 302 (7 signals) and Route 303 (10 signals). The 80 km/h highway section makes this the only Sylvia Park route with a high-speed component.
Watch Out For
- South Eastern Highway (80 km/h). Merge and lane changes at highway speed. Check mirrors and blind spots carefully before changing lanes. Accelerate to 80 km/h promptly after the speed sign.
- Mount Wellington Highway signals. Multiple signalised intersections back to back. Maintain awareness of which lane you need for upcoming turns.
- Portage Road, Otahuhu. Busy commercial strip with buses, pedestrians, and parked vehicles. Watch for doors opening and passengers stepping off buses.
- Carbine Road. Bike lane section. Always head-check for cyclists before turning left across the bike lane.

- 11 left turns, 15 right turns, 1 roundabout, 21 sets of traffic lights.

Key Tips
- The 80 km/h section on SE Highway is the biggest challenge. Practise merging at speed and ensure you reach the speed limit, as driving too slowly on a highway is a fault.
- With 21 traffic signals, lane discipline is critical. Plan your lane position early for upcoming turns to avoid last-second changes.
- Speed transitions between 50 and 80 km/h happen quickly. Watch for speed signs and adjust promptly.
