Winchester #341 Pro
This 9.2-mile route takes about 30 minutes and heads south through St Cross, Shawford and Twyford before returning via Badger Farm and Stanmore. It has the most waypoints of any Winchester route at 89, with 52 speed-40 zones and 6 school zones creating constant speed changes. With 11 traffic signals and speeds from 20 to 60 mph, it shares some roads with Route 338 but extends further south to Shawford.
Watch Out For
- Searles Hill near Shawford. Steep hill with a 40 mph limit. Control your speed on the descent and be prepared for sharp bends at the bottom.
- School zone south of Twyford. First of 6 school zones. With 52 speed-40 sections on this route, speed awareness is constantly tested.
- Badger Farm Road. Roundabout approach with lane changes. Get into the correct lane early and check mirrors before switching.
- Battery Hill in Stanmore. Residential road with parked cars narrowing the route. Watch for doors opening and pedestrians stepping out.
- Romsey Road 40 mph section. Long stretch with frequent speed limit changes. Keep scanning for new speed signs.
Route Features
- 10 left turns, 7 right turns, 5 roundabouts, 11 sets of traffic lights.
- 17 turns (10 left, 7 right), 5 roundabouts, 11 traffic signals

Test Manoeuvres
- Pull up on the left near Christchurch Road. Mirror, signal, position. A clean stop close to the kerb finishes the test well.
Key Tips
- 52 speed-40 zones mean the limit changes often. Miss a sign and you could pick up avoidable minor faults.
- With 15 bike lane sections, always check your left mirror before any left turn. Cyclists may be alongside you.
- On Searles Hill, use a lower gear for the descent. Riding the brakes alone can overheat them and reduce control.
