Hornchurch (London) #425 Pro
This 8.2-mile route takes about 28 minutes and offers a distinctly rural feel compared to other Hornchurch routes. It heads south through Gaynes Park Road towards Ockendon Road, with long stretches of 40 mph country-style roads. With zero roundabouts, only 3 traffic signals, and no junctions above 40 mph, this is the least complex route. However, the narrow lanes and limited visibility on bends require careful observation.
Watch Out For
- Stubbers Lane. Narrow rural lane with limited forward visibility. Reduce speed on bends and be ready for oncoming vehicles, cyclists, or horse riders.
- Dennises Lane. Country road where the 40 mph limit may feel fast due to narrow width. Position centrally but be prepared to move left for oncoming traffic.
- Aveley Road junction. Rural junction with limited sight lines. Creep forward carefully to check for approaching traffic before committing.
Route Features
- 7 left turns, 9 right turns, 3 sets of traffic lights.
- Zero roundabouts and only 3 traffic signals, the least of any Hornchurch route
- Significant 40 mph sections through rural lanes south of Upminster
- 16 turns total (7 left, 9 right) on quieter roads compared to the signal-heavy Route #424
- 20 mph zones near Hacton Lane before entering the rural section
Test Manoeuvres
- Pull up on the left near the test centre on return. Straightforward stop on a residential road.
Key Tips
- On narrow rural lanes, use passing places and give way to oncoming vehicles. Do not force your way through.
- Maintain 40 mph where safe. Driving too slowly on clear roads is a fault for lack of progress.
- Check for concealed entrances and side roads along Corbets Tey Road. Vehicles may emerge without warning.
