Hornchurch (London) #427 Pro
This 9.9-mile route takes about 33 minutes through Elm Park and south to Rainham Road, nearly mirroring Route #426. The key differences: #427 has 10 traffic signals (versus #426' + chr(39) + 's 12) and one extra right turn (3 left, 4 right versus 3 left, 3 right). Speeds range from 20 to 40 mph with the same extensive 20 mph residential zones. If you have practised #426, this route will feel very familiar.
Watch Out For
- Pedestrian crossing on Upper Rainham Road. Identical to Route #426. Stay alert for pedestrians stepping out, especially during school hours.
- New Road junction. Approach with care as traffic queues can extend back from this busy junction. Check all mirrors before changing lanes.
- Upper Rainham Road southbound. Long straight road where maintaining exactly 30 mph is important. Avoid creeping above the limit on the descent.
Route Features
- 8 left turns, 4 right turns, 4 roundabouts, 10 sets of traffic lights.
- 10 traffic signals, 2 fewer than the near-identical Route #426
- 12 turns (8 left, 4 right), one more right turn than #426
- Same key roads: Elm Park Avenue, Rainham Road, Berwick Pond Road, Hacton Lane
- 4 roundabouts, same 20-40 mph speed range, same Suttons Avenue 20 mph zones
Test Manoeuvres
- Pull up on the left near the test centre. Similar location to Route #426' + chr(39) + 's pullover point.
Key Tips
- The extra right turn compared to #426 is the main difference. Practise smooth right turns with proper observation in both directions.
- With 10 signals still being high, maintain the MSM routine at every junction. Do not become complacent on familiar stretches.
- Use Bridge Road as a landmark. After this point, you are heading back north through the 40 mph Berwick Pond Road section.
