Morden (London) #437 Free
This 14.3 km Morden route is the second longest from this centre, taking about 37 minutes. It heads northwest through Cannon Hill Lane and Bushey Road, then continues west into Malden Way and Motspur Park near New Malden, before returning via Crossway and Grand Drive. It is the only Morden route that includes a 50 mph section, testing higher-speed confidence.
Watch Out For
Malden Way is a fast 30 mph road that transitions into a short 50 mph dual carriageway section near the speed camera zone. The speed change is abrupt, so watch for signs carefully. Blakes Avenue in Motspur Park is narrow with parked cars and limited visibility at junctions. Two roundabouts require confident lane selection, particularly the larger one near Martin Way. Nine left turns into residential side streets mean frequent mirror and blind-spot checks.
Route Features
Mostly 20 mph streets with 30 mph on Bushey Road and Malden Road, plus a 50 mph stretch on Malden Way. Eleven traffic signals are the second fewest of any Morden route. The western section near Motspur Park station has railway crossings and busier pedestrian areas. Elm Walk and Parkway wind through quiet tree-lined residential streets with speed bumps.
Test Manoeuvres
Pull up on the left is likely near Tudor Drive. The quiet residential streets off Aragon Road or Seymour Avenue provide space for a reverse bay park, parallel park, or turn-in-the-road.
Key Tips
Accelerate smoothly to 50 mph on Malden Way when the signs indicate the higher limit; hesitating in a 50 zone is a common fault. Drop back to 30 mph promptly when the limit changes. Near Motspur Park station, expect pedestrians crossing between parked cars. On the residential streets, slow down for speed bumps and watch for children. The route's length demands sustained concentration for over 35 minutes.
