This 17.4 km route from Loughton test centre heads south through The Broadway and Chigwell Lane before joining the 60 mph Abridge Road towards Abridge village. The return follows Theydon Bois and Golding's Hill through Epping Forest back to the centre.
Watch Out For
The 40 mph speed transitions on Chigwell Lane catch many learners off guard. Three separate speed limit drops require sharp observation. A U-turn near the M11 bridge demands confident steering on a narrow road. King's Green at the start has parked cars narrowing the road significantly.
Route Features
This two-stage route covers urban Debden streets at 30 mph, then transitions to 60 mph national speed limit roads through open countryside towards Abridge. Hillyfields and Burney Drive are residential 30 mph zones with parked cars on both sides. The Colebrook Lane section includes tight bends before joining Willingale Road.
Key Tips
Build speed confidently on the 60 mph Abridge Road sections but watch for the 40 mph zone near Lambourne. On the return through Epping Forest, Lower Road has blind crests requiring careful positioning. Use the pull up on the left manoeuvre space near the start to settle your nerves before the longer drive.
