This 16.7 km route heads north from Loughton through High Road and climbs Golding's Hill into Epping Forest. After passing through Piercing Hill in Theydon Bois, the route continues east to Abridge before returning via Chigwell Lane and the residential streets of Oakwood Hill.
Watch Out For
The 60 mph Golding's Hill section through Epping Forest has sharp bends with limited visibility. Four 40 mph speed zones on Chigwell Lane require prompt adjustment. A U-turn near the M11 overpass tests your control on a busy road. Orchard Drive in Theydon Bois has tight residential turns with poor sightlines.

This route covers the widest range of road types at Loughton: forest roads at 40-60 mph through Coppice Row, rural 60 mph stretches on Abridge Road, and narrow residential lanes in Theydon Bois. The return through Roding Road and Brooklyn Avenue brings you back through quieter Loughton streets.

Maintain steady speed on the long Abridge Road sections but be ready to brake for oncoming traffic on narrow stretches. Through Roding Road, watch for pedestrians near the school. Give way to the right at all mini roundabouts in Theydon Bois village centre.
