Nottingham (Chilwell) #694 Free
An 8.1-mile, 25-minute route through Beeston, Toton, Stapleford, and Sandiacre. Speed limits range from 30 to 70 mph with a 60 mph section on Bostocks Lane and a brief 70 mph stretch on Brian Clough Way. Similar distance to routes 686 and 695, but this one ventures further into Sandiacre via the interchange, adding more roundabout practice with 4 roundabouts and 22 traffic signals.
Watch Out For
- Derby Road, Sandiacre. After exiting Bostocks Lane, the speed drops from 60 mph to 30 mph. The transition is abrupt near the Sandiacre Interchange roundabout.
- Bostocks Lane. A 60 mph national speed limit road that is narrow in places. Stay left, reduce speed on bends, and be prepared for oncoming vehicles.
- Brookhill Street, Stapleford. A residential street connecting Sandiacre and Stapleford. Parked cars narrow the road, and there are hidden turnings on both sides.
- Brian Clough Way dual carriageway. The 70 mph section requires confident acceleration and smooth lane positioning. Watch for vehicles merging from slip roads.
- Pedestrian crossing near Swiney Way. Located on the approach back to the test centre. Always check whether the lights are about to change.
Route Features
- 4 roundabouts including Swiney Way and Sandiacre Interchange
- 22 traffic signals across Beeston, Stapleford, and Sandiacre
- 60 mph on Bostocks Lane and 70 mph on Brian Clough Way
- 11 total turns (5 left, 6 right)
Test Manoeuvres
- Pull up on the left near Eldon Road. After the faster sections, ensure your speed is fully reduced. Check mirrors, signal, and stop close to the kerb.
Key Tips
- Bostocks Lane at 60 mph tests your ability to drive at higher speeds on a narrow road. Do not feel pressured to reach the limit if conditions are poor.
- The Sandiacre Interchange has multiple exits. Follow the correct lane and signal well before your exit.
- Brookhill Street is an easy place to lose focus after the dual carriageway. Keep scanning for hazards as you return to 30 mph residential streets.
