Nottingham (Chilwell) #695 Pro
An 8.1-mile, 27-minute route through Beeston, Toton, Stapleford, Bramcote, Bramcote Hills, and Attenborough. Mostly 30 mph with 40 mph sections on Derby Road near Bramcote Hills and a brief 70 mph stretch on Brian Clough Way. Similar distance to routes 686 and 694, but this route stands out with 9 left turns, 8 right turns, and a loop through Sandringham Drive and Cator Lane in the residential areas of Bramcote Hills and Beeston.
Watch Out For
- Sandringham Drive, Bramcote Hills. A quiet residential cul-de-sac area with tight bends. Watch for parked cars on the inside of bends reducing your visibility of oncoming vehicles.
- Derby Road speed transition. Speed changes from 40 mph to 30 mph as you enter the Beeston area. The signs can be easy to miss among roadside clutter.
- Park Street, Beeston. A residential road with parked cars on both sides and pedestrians walking to local shops. Keep speed steady at 30 mph.
- Brian Clough Way roundabout. The transition from 70 mph dual carriageway to the roundabout requires early braking. Check mirrors and start slowing well in advance.
- High Road to Meadow Lane. The route turns through residential Attenborough. Narrow roads with limited forward visibility require careful observation.
Route Features
- 2 roundabouts including Swiney Way
- 20 traffic signals across Beeston and Bramcote Hills
- 2 school zones and 4 U-turn waypoints for manoeuvre practice
- Loop through Sandringham Drive and Cator Lane residential areas
- 17 total turns (9 left, 8 right)
Test Manoeuvres
- Pull up on the left near Eldon Road. Mirror-signal-manoeuvre, then park close to the kerb. Complete a 6-point check before pulling away.
Key Tips
- The Bramcote Hills residential loop (Sandringham Drive, Thoresby Road) tests your ability to navigate quiet streets. Stay alert despite the calm environment.
- Cator Lane is long and straight but has school zones and give-way junctions. Do not let the straight road lull you into inattention.
- The Attenborough return via Long Lane and Attenborough Lane is quiet but narrow. Position carefully for oncoming traffic.
