Nottingham (Chilwell) #703 Free
This 7.3-mile, 26-minute route heads north through Beeston into Bramcote village via School Lane and Bramcote Lane, then follows Derby Road east to Wollaton Road before looping back through Beeston town centre. Speeds are mostly 30 mph with 40 mph sections and a brief 20 mph zone. With 29 signals (second highest after Route 697), 9 left turns, 7 right turns, and 7 U-turn points, it demands constant attention at junctions. Only 1 roundabout, so the emphasis is firmly on traffic lights and give-way junctions. Similar to Route 707 which shares the Wollaton Road section but starts with a different approach into Bramcote.
Watch Out For
- School Lane, Beeston. Narrow lane near schools with a 20 mph limit during school hours. Easy to exceed if you are not watching for the signs.
- Derby Road near Bramcote. The junction with Town Street requires careful observation - traffic moves fast on Derby Road and the turn is on a bend.
- Wollaton Road / Derby Road junction. Complex traffic light junction with multiple lanes. Follow the road markings to stay in the right lane for your direction.
- Humber Road area. Residential streets with parked cars and limited visibility at crossroads. Approach each junction slowly and check both ways.
- Meadow Lane, Beeston. Narrow road with a pedestrian crossing. The crossing is near a curve, so check early for waiting pedestrians.
