Maidstone #716 Pro
A 15.7 km single-stage route from Maidstone that heads south through the countryside to Boughton Monchelsea (Brishing Lane) and Chart Sutton (Sutton Road). This route has a distinctive turn pattern with only 4 left turns against 10 right turns, and reaches 60 mph on rural A-roads. With just 7 traffic lights (the fewest from Maidstone alongside Route #720), the challenge shifts from urban navigation to rural speed management and country lane driving.
Watch Out For
- Speed limit changes near Boughton Monchelsea. Transition from 30 mph to 40 mph on rural lanes. The 40 mph zone starts quickly after leaving the village. Twelve speed-40 signs along this section.
- Plough Wents Road narrow lanes. Single-track country road with passing places. Be prepared to reverse into a passing place if needed.
- School zone near Loose. 20 mph limit during school hours on the way out from Maidstone.
- Give way at Brishing Lane junction. Limited visibility on approach. Creep forward slowly and look both ways before committing.
Route Features
- Only 4 left turns but 10 right turns. The most right-heavy route from Maidstone.
- 6 roundabouts, mainly near Worcester Road.
- 7 traffic lights, joint fewest from this centre.
- 2 give way junctions.
- Speed range: 30-60 mph with extensive 40 mph rural sections.
Test Manoeuvres
- Pull up on the left near the test centre area.
Key Tips
- The 10 right turns are mostly at junctions with faster traffic. Check mirrors and signal early, especially when turning right across oncoming vehicles on 40-60 mph roads.
- On country lanes near Plough Wents Road, keep left and slow down before blind bends. Expect tractors and horse riders.
- This is a faster route overall. If you are comfortable with rural driving, the lower traffic light count makes it more flowing than town-based routes like #715 or #712.
