Hendon (London) #858 Pro
This 7.1-mile, 31-minute route is the roundabout champion of Hendon, featuring 10 roundabouts and only 5 traffic signals. It heads west through Montrose Avenue to Burnt Oak, then continues to Cumberland Road in Queensbury and Honeypot Lane near Stanmore. The route swings north to Taunton Way before returning via Orange Hill Road and Booth Road. It reaches the furthest west of any Hendon route. Almost entirely 30 mph, this route is a pure roundabout test.
Watch Out For
- Queensbury Station Parade. Roundabout near the station with heavy pedestrian traffic; check for people crossing the approach road as you enter.
- Honeypot Lane. Dual carriageway feel with 30 mph limit; easy to over-speed because the road is wide. Stay at 30.
- Burnt Oak Broadway. High street roundabout with buses and delivery trucks; position yourself carefully as large vehicles may encroach on your lane.
- Taunton Way. Multiple mini roundabouts in a residential estate; each one requires the full observation and signalling routine even though they are small.
Route Features
- 10 roundabouts (most in any Hendon route) and 5 sets of traffic signals
- 2 left turns and 3 right turns (roundabouts handle most direction changes)
- Furthest-west Hendon route, reaching Queensbury and Stanmore border
- Almost entirely 30 mph residential and suburban roads
Test Manoeuvres
- Pull up on the left near Beaufort Square
Key Tips
- With 10 roundabouts, develop a rhythm: mirror, signal, position, speed, look. Apply it identically at every roundabout regardless of size
- At mini roundabouts, you still give way to the right; do not treat them as normal junctions
- On Honeypot Lane, the wide road tempts higher speeds. Watch for the 30 mph repeater signs and stick to the limit
