Hendon (London) #859 Pro
This 7.1-mile, 25-minute route combines Mill Hill driving with the Hendon Central loop. It heads north via Grahame Park Way to Parkside in Mill Hill, then south through Great North Way and Brent Street. The return leg passes through Hendon Central via Queen's Road and Station Road. With 3 roundabouts, 8 signals, and 8 left turns, this route has more left turns than any other Hendon route. Speed limits include a 20 mph school zone near Watford Way, 30 mph residential, and 50 mph on Watford Way north of Hendon.
Watch Out For
- School zone on Watford Way. 20 mph zone active during school hours with flashing amber lights; missing this is an automatic serious fault.
- Brent Street. Narrow shopping street with pedestrians crossing between parked cars; maintain 20 mph and keep both hands on the wheel.
- Queen's Road. Residential road with speed bumps and parked cars creating a slalom effect; stay centred in your lane between obstacles.
- Copthall Drive. Near the sports ground, pedestrians and joggers may cross unexpectedly; scan the pavement as you approach.
Route Features
- 3 roundabouts and 8 sets of traffic signals
- 8 left turns and 2 right turns (most left-turn-heavy Hendon route)
- Covers Mill Hill, Hendon, and Hendon Central
- 20 mph school zone, 30 mph residential, 40 mph on parts of Great North Way, 50 mph on Watford Way
Test Manoeuvres
- Pull up on the left near Boulevard Drive
Key Tips
- With 8 left turns, check your left mirror and blind spot before every one; cyclists filter on the left in London traffic
- The 20 mph school zone has variable enforcement; slow down when you see the flashing lights regardless of whether children are visible
- On Queen's Road, do not accelerate hard between speed bumps; maintain a steady 20 mph to show the examiner smooth vehicle control
