Hendon (London) #865 Pro
An 8.8 km (5.4 miles) route from the Hendon DVSA Test Centre, one of the shorter routes at about 23 minutes. It heads south-east through Hendon village to Hendon Central, passing Station Road, Vivian Avenue, and Hendon Way (A41), before looping back through Parson Street and Sunny Gardens Road. The route covers speed limits from 20 to 40 mph, with a 40 mph section on Hendon Way and 9 sets of traffic lights.
Watch Out For
- Hendon Way (A41). Fast dual carriageway at 40 mph. The junction from Station Road onto Hendon Way requires quick lane selection. Check mirrors and signal before changing lanes.
- Parson Street. Narrow one-way sections and sharp bends with limited forward visibility. Speed should be well below 20 mph when navigating around blind corners.
- Hendon Way roundabout. Give way junction feeding into the A41. Traffic moves fast here. Wait for a safe gap rather than forcing your way in.
Route Features
- 4 left turns and 6 right turns through the Hendon Central shopping and residential area
- No roundabouts on the main route, but 9 sets of traffic lights along Station Road and Church Road
- 2 give way junctions, 1 mini roundabout near Hendon Way, and 2 speed limit change zones (25 mph markers)
- Key roads: Aerodrome Road, Church End, The Burroughs, Station Road, Hendon Way, Parson Street, Sunny Gardens Road, Watford Way
Test Manoeuvres
- Pull up on the left near Aerodrome Road. Standard mirrors-signal-position routine.
Key Tips
- The 9 traffic lights make this route signal-heavy. Approach each set reading the lights early. If amber, check your stopping distance rather than rushing through.
- On Westside, the road passes near Hendon Park with pedestrians and cyclists. Keep 30 mph and scan the pavements.
- Watford Way southbound has a bike lane. Check your left mirror before turning left across it.
