Hendon (London) #866 Pro
A 7.8 km (4.8 miles) route from the Hendon DVSA Test Centre, the shortest in this batch at under 19 minutes. Despite its short length, this route packs in 5 roundabouts, making it the most roundabout-intensive route from Hendon. It loops through Grahame Park Way, Montrose Avenue, and Burnt Oak Broadway, then returns via Deansbrook Road and Grahame Park Way. Speed limits stay between 20 and 30 mph throughout.
Watch Out For
- Burnt Oak Broadway roundabout. Mini roundabout on a busy shopping street. Pedestrians cross nearby and bus traffic is heavy. Give way to traffic from the right and signal your exit direction clearly.
- Montrose Avenue roundabouts. Two roundabouts in quick succession. You must signal and position correctly for each one with very little road between them.
- Orange Hill Road / Watling Avenue. Transition from 30 mph to 20 mph zone near schools. Speed humps slow you down, but check you are not creeping above 20 mph between them.
Route Features
- 4 left turns and 3 right turns, a relatively balanced turning profile
- 5 roundabouts and 3 sets of traffic lights, making roundabout skills the focus of this route
- 20 mph zones through the Flower Lane / Lancaster Close residential area
- Key roads: Grahame Park Way, Montrose Avenue, Burnt Oak Broadway, Watling Avenue, Orange Hill Road, Deansbrook Road
Test Manoeuvres
- Pull up on the left near Aerodrome Road. Mirrors, signal, kerb alignment.
Key Tips
- Five roundabouts in under 5 miles demands consistent technique. For each one: check mirrors on approach, signal on time, give way to the right, and signal left when exiting.
- On Deansbrook Road, parked cars create bottlenecks. If an oncoming vehicle is already in the gap, wait behind the parked car rather than squeezing through.
- The short route length means the examiner sees your driving at higher density. Every junction and roundabout counts more.
