Hendon (London) #867 Free
A 10 km (6.2 miles) route from the Hendon DVSA Test Centre, taking about 23 minutes through Grahame Park and Mill Hill. The route heads north via Grahame Park Way and Flower Lane, then enters the quiet residential streets of Mill Hill including Wise Lane, Milespit Hill, and Devonshire Road. Notably, this route has zero traffic lights and relies entirely on junctions, roundabouts, and give way signs for navigation.
Watch Out For
- Milespit Hill. Steep descent into a sharp bend at the bottom. Control your speed with engine braking and be ready to stop if oncoming traffic appears around the bend.
- Oakhampton Road junction. Priority junction with limited visibility to the right due to hedges. Creep forward slowly and do a thorough check before committing.
- Page Street / Bunn's Lane junction. T-junction where you must judge gaps in traffic from both directions. Rushed decisions here often result in a serious fault.
Route Features
- 5 left turns and 2 right turns through quiet Mill Hill residential streets
- 2 roundabouts and zero traffic lights, making independent junction judgment essential
- Entirely 30 mph residential roads with no dual carriageway sections
- Key roads: Grahame Park Way, Flower Lane, Bunn's Lane, Page Street, Wise Lane, Milespit Hill, Devonshire Road, Pursley Road
Test Manoeuvres
- Pull up on the left near Heritage Avenue. Standard kerb stop with full mirror and signal routine.
Key Tips
- With no traffic lights at all, every junction is uncontrolled or give-way. You must demonstrate you can read the road and prioritise correctly without signal assistance.
- Mill Hill's residential streets often have parked cars on both sides. Treat each narrowing as a potential meeting point and be ready to give way.
- On Pursley Road, the road curves gently. Maintain your lane position and avoid cutting corners on left-hand bends.
