The longest Crewe test route at 15.1 miles, taking about 35 minutes. The route heads southwest through Wistaston to Nantwich, then onto the Nantwich and Shavington Bypass (A500/A531) at up to 70 mph before returning via Gresty Lane and Rope Lane. This is the only Crewe route that reaches dual carriageway speed. Three 40 mph speed signs are marked near Rope Lane.

Watch Out For

  • Shavington Bypass. Dual carriageway section at 70 mph. You must reach the speed limit promptly when joining. Hesitating or driving at 50 mph in a 70 zone is a common serious fault.
  • Crewe Road near Nantwich. The transition from 70 mph bypass to 30 mph village road is abrupt. Begin slowing well before the speed limit signs appear.
  • Wistaston Green Road. Winding residential road with parked cars. After the high-speed bypass, it is easy to misjudge your speed. Check your speedometer.
  • Gresty Lane. Narrow lane with blind bends and farm traffic. The 40 mph signs are marked here but the road may not feel safe at that speed on bends.
