Albany PDA Driving Test Routes Book Test

Typical Speed Limits Albany test routes operate at 50 and 60 km/h. Most residential streets around York Street, Serpentine Road, and Hill Street are 50 km/h, with 60 km/h on wider roads like Cockburn Road and Lockyer Avenue. There are no high-speed highway sections on any Albany route. WA school zones are 40 km/h from 7:30-9:00 am and 2:30-4:00 pm on school days.
Traffic Conditions Albany is a quiet regional town in WA's Great Southern region. Traffic is generally light, with moderate activity around the York Street commercial strip and Lockyer Avenue shopping area. The waterfront precinct near Princess Royal Drive sees tourist traffic, particularly during holiday periods. Pedestrian activity is concentrated near shops on Stirling Terrace.
Key Features Albany is one of WA's most roundabout-dense test areas, with routes featuring between 13 and 23 roundabouts and zero traffic signals anywhere in the test area. The three routes cover the historic town centre, the waterfront precinct via Princess Royal Drive, and the residential grid around Barker Road and Collie Street. Give way intersections are common, with up to 10 per route. Narrow residential streets near Festing Street and Parade Street may have parked cars restricting road width.
Common Test Manoeuvres Expect a pullover and resume on a quiet residential street. WA roundabout technique is heavily tested: signal on entry (left indicator for left turn, right for right, no signal for straight) and always signal left when exiting. With no traffic lights, every intersection decision relies on your observation and give way rule knowledge. Practise the WA signalling sequence until it is automatic.
