Newman PDA Driving Test Routes Book Test

Typical Speed Limits The Newman test route covers 50 to 70 km/h. Residential streets around Cowra Drive and the southern Woodstock Street area are 50 km/h. Wider roads through town are 60 km/h, and Great Northern Highway reaches 70 km/h. There are no 110 km/h open-road sections on this route.
Traffic Conditions Newman is a remote Pilbara mining town with very light local traffic. Mining-related heavy vehicles, including road trains, use Great Northern Highway and can be encountered when the route joins this road. The town's residential streets are exceptionally quiet, with wide, flat roads that provide excellent visibility. Newman's isolation means minimal through-traffic beyond the mining workforce.
Key Features This 17.4 km single-stage route is one of the longer regional routes in WA. The key infrastructure features are minimal: only 2 roundabouts and zero traffic signals in the entire route. With 24 turns (12 left, 12 right) across a grid of residential streets, the test relies heavily on intersection observation and give way compliance. The Great Northern Highway section at 70 km/h introduces a speed change from the residential 50-60 km/h zones. Newman Drive is the main road through town with multiple intersections. The Wonmunna Road area in the south has quieter streets.
Common Test Manoeuvres Expect a kerbside stop near Nyabalee Road. With no traffic signals and only 2 roundabouts, the test at Newman focuses on basic driving skills: speed management on wide open streets, intersection observation at give way junctions, and the transition to 70 km/h on Great Northern Highway. The wide, empty streets can tempt you to speed or lose focus. Stay disciplined at 50 km/h in residential areas.
